Art and craft are important components of early childhood education as they help to develop fine motor skills, creativity, imagination, and self-expression in young children. In our NTT program, we cover the following topics related to art and craft:
- Introduction to Art Materials: Introduce teachers to a variety of art materials such as paints, crayons, markers, coloured pencils, clay, and playdough. Teach them how to handle and store these materials safely.
- Art Techniques: Teach teachers basic art techniques such as drawing, painting, colouring, cutting, pasting, and moulding. Encourage them to experiment with different techniques to create unique artworks.
- Art and Craft Activities: Provide teachers with a range of art and craft activities suitable for young children, such as finger painting, collage-making, clay modelling, and paper weaving. Show them how to adapt these activities to suit the developmental level of their students.
- Creative Expression: Emphasize the importance of allowing children to express themselves freely through art. Encourage teachers to create a supportive and non-judgmental environment where children feel free to explore their creativity.
- Integrating Art into The Curriculum: Teach teachers how to integrate art and craft activities into other areas of the curriculum, such as language arts, math, science, and social studies. Show them how art can be used to reinforce learning in these subjects.
By covering these topics in a practical way, aspiring pre-primary teachers are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to incorporate art and craft into their curriculum effectively. This helps to enhance the overall development and learning experience of young children in their care.
